U9C Cricket v Handcross Park

8th May 2016

This week the U9C team were able to take to the square thanks to Handcross Park making the short journey to Copthorne. There aren’t many schools on our circuit that have the luxury of fielding a C team so it was great to be able to get a game in so early in the season.

Handcross opened the batting and after their 7 pairs had batted through the 14 allotted overs they recorded a score of 104 runs for the loss of 1 wicket, leaving them with a final total off 99. It was Lucas who took our wicket but special mentions to Hamish and Rafe who also bowled excellently.

Pick of the bowlers (runs against): Hamish (2), Rafe (4), Lucas (6 and 1 wicket)

With the bat in hand we took to the crease looking to chase down the 99 run total. The game could have gone either way as we managed to keep up with the required run rate, matching Handcross right up until the final 2 overs. We needed 12 runs to win the game but in pairs cricket all is not as simple as it seems. A loss of a wicket and -5 runs are taken from your score! We managed to score the required 12 runs but unfortunately we lost 2 wickets in the process, finishing with a score of 89 runs after deductions.

Pick of the batsmen (runs off the bat): Pranav (7), Lucas (4), Elliott (4)

Well done to the 14 boys who took part in the match; on any other day you would have walked away with a victory. Effort stars all around. MA
