We took a 15 strong team to compete as individuals at this year’s County Athletics Championships but right from the off it was clear that we were one solid team and cheered eachother on throughout the day.  It was one of the most successful days we have had at Hurst for a long time with all 15 playing their part along the way to picking up 5 bronze, 1 silver and 1 gold medal.

Beau Heaver – U10 boys 75m Gold

Ami Finnegan – U11 girls rounders ball Silver

Zac Collins – U10 boys cricket ball Bronze

Ella Divine – U10 girls rounders ball Bronze

Nemo Brodie, Harry Beckley-Bannerton, Bradley Smith, Beau Heaver – U10 boys 4 x 100m relay Bronze

Daniel Persad – U11 boys 100m Bronze

Elise Fry – U11 girls 70m hurdles Bronze (New school record 15.03s)

We were also unlucky not to pick up further medals with the U11 girls 4 x 100m relay team making the final but could only manage a 7th place finish.  Hermione Ashbee pushed all the way in her U11 girls 800m final for 4th spot.  Daniel Westwood finished 6th in the U11 boys 1500m final, however broke his own school record with 5.41:61s.  Gabriel Jones and Alice Renshaw were both placed 6th in the U11 boys and girls high jump.  Daniel Persad was dealt a cruel blow with a stumble on the last hurdle resulting in a 4th place finish.  Ami Finnegan shocked herself by reaching the U11 girls 200m final but did not place high enough to medal on this occasion. Bradley Smith had his first taste of U10 boys long jump and missed out of the final by one place!  Ella Cavedaschi, Rosie Home and Harry Beckley-Bannerton can count themselves unlucky by all missing out on their respected U10 girls and boys 100m and 200m finals by half a second!

Athletics can be a cruel sport but also one that teaches you alot about yourself and how much work you need to put in to improve.  Well done to everybody; you were superb!
