Under 11 Rugby – “The Pelican Cup” – Brighton College 7’s

14th March 2016

The final rugby fixture of the season was a new tournament down in Brighton.  This could quickly become the biggest and most competitive 7’s tournament on our circuit so to be involved in the opening year was a huge honour.

The Under 11’s had a tough day if truth be told with an opening 3 try loss against Brighton College Prep quickly followed by a 6 try deficit against St Thomas’ School Clapham.  Thomas’ went on to contest the final against a strong Great Walstead side.  Our final game was against St Andrew’s and again we struggled to make an impact on the game.

The results did not matter as each of the boys had a great afternoon and took a lot out of the day.  I think the biggest lesson learned was that in order to improve and be successful then you must put in the work on the training field.  There were a couple of Harlequin rugby players on hand to meet and greet the players, signing autographs and getting their photographs taken so that was a nice experience for our boys.  The photograph is on our school sport twitter feed @copthornesport which you can follow.

Well done to all of the Under 11 boys this season.  There have been plenty of highs and lows but enjoyable all the same.  Good look next year when you make the step up to 1st XV rugby.  Thank you.  MA
