Our penultimate match of the season was played on a beautiful sunny afternoon, with the boys looking to continue their winning streak having had an active morning with the athletics finals. We lost the toss and were put in to bat.
We scored 157 runs, with 6 wickets lost in the process. Hurst kept our total down with some nice bowling and some lively fielding, but we were also culpable, since we gave away at least 2 wickets through silly calling and running. Our top scorers were captain Josh and Zac, who each accrued 8 runs. Aaryan scored a decent 6 runs on his debut for the As, but some of the other batsmen were a little slog happy and lost runs by giving away their wicket too easily and too often.
We went into the field having to defend a low total, and things looked quite bad after only 3 Hurst pairs had batted, all they needed was 13 to win from 6 overs. However, Josh and Luke put in a really nice little spell of bowling which nearly took the game back for us. Josh conceded only 5 runs in his two overs and Luke took 1 for 8 runs in his two. With a run-out on the last ball, the game was on a knife-edge, but Hurst just scraped home by a single run in the end. Well played, but we could have won this game had we been a little sharper!
