U9 Rugby v Cottesmore

Cottesmore    5    Copthorne    45

Try Scorers: Sam (5), Joe C (3), Gus

The roles were reversed for our second match of the season, with our boys playing the part of the experienced team coming up against a side playing their first match of the season. Cottesmore still made a good start, as one of their bigger lads broke through a couple of weak tackles to score within the first two minutes. That was the only try they were to score, however, as our greater experience and discipline soon kicked in. We won the ball time and again, with some excellent rucking, something that was totally missing from our game last match. Everyone was willing to tackle today, though Luca, Jamie and Charlie stood out, probably making the most tackles in the side. Jayden was really good at securing the ball in the rucks. We soon started asserting ourselves, and with Cottesmore getting sucked into the break-down, we were soon able to get the ball wide with a few passes and use our pace on the flanks. Sam proved very effective here, scoring 5 tries, thanks to some excellent pace. Jamie did not get any tries today, but he set up the best try of the game, running half the pitch and offloading a great pass to Sam. Joe also got three nice tries and set up one for Gus, who was rewarded for making a good support run, and finished nicely after a good pass.  It was nice to see Jacob and Gus, two of the smallest players on the field making good tackles and running confidently with the ball. Well played to the whole team, you have made a huge amount of progress since our match against Hurst!
