Congratulations to Daniel Gooda, Freya Finnegan, Jamie Ward, James Reid, Joshua and Sam Higgs who all represented Copthorne at the 13th Eastbourne Open Chess Tournament last Sunday. All played very well in a tough competition and Sam Higgs was awarded the Arbiters prize for fair play. Congratulations also to Joshua Higgs, James Reid and Freya Finnegan who represented Copthorne at the recent Cottesmore School Chess Congress.  This tournament is for Under 13 children, and due to a Bugsy Malone Dress Rehearsal we put out a team of Under 9s and in Freya’s case Under 8s. With 4 England players and several county players in attendance it was always going to be tough BUT all our team won at least one match with Josh scoring 3½ points, James 3 and Freya 2 out of a possible 6. Freya won the trophy for the best girl player! What fantastic results all round.
