Federica swam for Sussex on the first Sunday (18th) in the ‘National Inter Counties’ event at Sheffield (All Counties participating). She was swimming the 100m Breastroke (Short Course) in the 13 Years and under, being 12 she was the youngest in this event, and will still be eligible for it next year. She swam a superb time of 1.14.47 – to finish 2nd – this being the fastest swim this year nationally by a 12 year old.
On Saturday 24th – she swam at Crystal Palace, again at 100m Breastroke, in the ‘Englsh Schools National Championships’ representing Copthorne School, and swimming as the representative for the combined counties of Sussex, Hampshire and Dorset. Again this was a 13 years and younger event for Year 9 and below, so again will be eligible next year. This was a Long Course event, and after swimming extremely well in the heats, to reach the finals, she went on to swim a time of 1.15.89 – long course, and finish – 1st – So Copthorne has the National Schools Swimming Champion. This time incidentally is also, a ‘new’ Sussex County Junior and Senior Swimming record, no one of any age, has ever swum faster in Sussex, and is the 7th fastest long course time ever recorded for a British Swimmer aged 12 years old.
Finally, last Friday evening, swimming at the Crawley Club Championships, she broke every club record of all the events she swam in 200M Backstroke /100M Butterfly /50M Freestyle and once again the 100M Breastroke In this latter event the 100M Breastroke, she swam a time of 1.13.44, a second better than above.
This is the ‘2nd’ fastest time ever recorded by a 12 year old British Swimmer, and was short of breaking the British record by 1 hundreth of a second the current record at 1.13.43 was set in 1999 by Kate Haywood the current British Olympic swimmer – so she has 2 months to beat this before her 13th birthday !
