Despite losing the toss Copthorne took control of the court from the onset and great interceptions from Sheen and Ella C our girls were the first to score. Our second goal came soon afterwards as the team passed the ball swiftly into the D.
Copthorne were the stronger team throughout the first two quarters allowing them to lead 7-3 by half time. There was some fantastic shooting from the two Ellas especially Ella D who made some incredible shots. However in the third quarter Cottesmore were determined and despite some good effort from our defence they began to look dangerous. Their passing was quick and accurate whilst Copthorne appeared to have lost focus and were not using the space. Fortunately the girls managed to recover and by the final quarter Copthorne were ahead 11-6.
A quick swap in positions and Copthorne were eager to win. There were some great interceptions and our passing and marking was good. Cottesmore scored a fabulous goal but Jemima and Ella D scored another 3 between them.
Overall it was a great match as the girls showed that they are really taking on board what they learn and practise in the sessions. Our defending and passing is getting better and the girls are putting tremendous effort into the game.
Unfortunately there aren’t enough girls to have two U10 teams and therefore there is quite a bit of competition to get onto the team. However there will be opportunities for all the girls to play and it is really important that they focus and work on their skills during the coaching sessions.
Well done girls and let’s make it another win next week. LD
