U11A Rounders v Cumnor – Lost 14-15

How nice to be finally playing rounders today! The U11’s were excited, as was I and it proved to be a very closely fought match! From the beginning the U11’s were in high spirits and this great team spirit remained throughout the match.

Although the U11’s lost the toss and were up to bat first, they came out strong, picking up lots of valuable ½ rounders, as well as two great rounders from Neve and Rosie. By the end of the first innings they had scored 6½ rounder’s in total! The girls then went into field, and this is where we won the first innings, with everyone gelling well together resulting in them getting 6 of Cumnor’s 9 players out, with 5 great catches from Amelia, Neve, Katie and Khushi who caught 2! By the end of the first innings the U11’s were up by a rounder, which was very well deserved!

It was all to play for in the second innings therefore, and the U11’s didn’t disappoint with their batting, coming out even stronger, despite taking risks at times which didn’t always pay off! Nevertheless the girls took another comfortable 7½ rounders with three great rounders scored, 2 from Ella D and 1 from Neve! They then went into field for the final time and fielded brilliantly right up until 5 good balls to play where the girls just lost their focus momentarily, which Cumnor used to their advantage and when the final ball was bowled Cumnor just sneaked past Copthorne for the win to take the match, 15 rounders to 14!

I do not think this score really reflects how the girls played today, as they deserved, at the very least a draw, however that’s the way sport goes sometimes! All of the U11’s should be commended today on their performances and I see lots of promise in this team for the rest of the season! Well done girls!

Cumnor’s player of the match today went to Ella D, who was also my player of the match shared with Neve for their super performances when batting and fielding!

Neve 5, Ella, D 2½, Ilana 2, Rosie 2, Ella C ½, Khushi ½, Jemima ½, Katie ½, Josie ½ and Amelia. TC
