This week we had a wonderful visit to Wakehurst Place. We took part in a variety of science based activities. Firstly we learnt that we all eat an awful lot of food which comes from plants…..rice…popcorn….flour….jam … naming just a few. We then went on to use microscopes and magnifiers to look at lots of different seeds and were amazed that some had hairs! We saw the largest seed in the world which weighs 20kg! We next walked around the grounds and were allowed to pick up items of interest such as pine cones, seeds and leaves. We ended by working in groups to make ephemeral art with lots of exciting natural materials. We were so lucky with the weather and learnt lots about our natural world. We also had a very tasty picnic!
