We had a wonderful time at Wakehurst Place last Friday and we consolidated a great deal of what we have been learning in our science lessons and Forest School. We looked carefully at the various stages of the growth of a sunflower seed and were reminded of how the life cycle of a sunflower seed is similar to the apple tree cycle. We made ephemeral artwork with lots of lovely Wakehurst tree and plant parts and learnt that we are all plant eaters too! This week we have been remembering the lovely trees we saw there and have mixed shades of brown and green to paint our own.

It was Mrs Blacker’s turn to visit the woods this week. We identified lots of trees using an information book and kept a tally on a sheet. We were looking for Beech, Holly, Hazel, Birch, Oak and Sycamore but we also found a Rowan tree. According to the tally sheets, Holly is growing everywhere! Mrs Jenkins lit a fire and we made toast using a forked stick. It worked very well and the stick only caught light a couple of times but the toast was delicious!
