Great Fire of London

12th February 2016

copthorne-prep-great-fire-of-londonThe Year 2 topic of The Great Fire of London was brought to a grand finale with the visit of Crawley Fire Services on Tuesday. The fire fighters gave the children a fascinating talk about their fire-proof clothing and how best to deal with a fire in the home. They were also given the opportunity to climb on the fire engine. There were air packs that last for 30 minutes, metal cutting ‘scissors of life’ for cutting metal after accidents and numerous pumps and hoses. The visit finished on a dramatic note when the crew were called away to a real emergency.

Fascinating Fact: The fire engine holds 10 bath tubs of water which will pump for 10 minutes if used on a fire!
