This week has seen Year 2 take on the role as a ‘history detective’! Using only a few clues, could they work out who the mystery person from ‘The Great Fire of London’ could be? In doing this they are building an understanding of how we find out about events from the past and that historical evidence can be misleading; you need lots of information to build a clear picture of what happened beyond living memory.
It was with great excitement that we took part in our Fire of London workshop. The children were encouraged to recreate events from the story through drama and role play. Children took on a variety of roles, from King Charles II, and Thomas Farriner to the unfortunate maid who was the first person to die and even the fire itself! They finished off the morning by putting together all the different poses and roles and retold the eventful story.
