Copthorne Pre-prep Year 2 - Aboriginal Painting - March 2017And a busy week for us too! In maths we have been counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s using Joey Kangaroo to help us. We have looked at a map of Australia, located Canberra and the 7 states of this enormous and fascinating country. We have learnt that the aboriginals have been there for thousands of years and we looked closely at some of their art work which tell stories of dreamtime.

Jo Elphick’s talk to explain the David Shepherd Foundation work and talk to the children about tigers and other endangered species was fascinating. We collaged a tiger picture and placed it in its habitat! If you ever come up close to a tiger watch out to see how the whiskers are positioned – they reveal the tigers mood! Hopefully your children can explain how this helps us to know if the tiger is alert or sleepy.

To top it all what a successful book day! So much fun was had by all. We not only enjoyed the talk by Kevin Price but we looked closely at some Roald Dahl characters.
