The children were asked to interview parents or grandparents to find out about holidays in the past. We so enjoyed sharing memories of our parents’ and grandparents’ holidays when they were children. In those days, few children flew to exotic locations! Caravan, bed and breakfast hotels and camping at the seaside were popular choices. It was interesting that many people who were interviewed preferred the holidays they have now when long haul locations are more accessible to all.

We are also researching seaside holidays beyond living memory through early photographs and paintings. The children were very amused to hear about bathing machines and fascinated by gentlemen on the beach in suits and hats. We all love history!
