Runs, Rounders, Sun and Rain

27th April 2018

After a week of above average temperatures and blue sky sunshine, the English weather reverted to type for the first matches of the new term with rain, cloud, wind and below average temperatures!

Fixtures against local schools involving 170 children in 18 different teams and four different sports playing both home and away is pretty typical for the sporting week at Copthorne. We aim to involves as many children in fixtures as we can making sure that each team is playing at an appropriate level. Whilst all games are competitive we make sure that we do not lose sight of the fact that we play sport for enjoyment and physical well-being as well as to develop an ever improving technique. Whilst it is enjoyable to win it must not be seen as the be all of a fixture at this level and that player development is significantly more important.

The first week of matches brought both wins and losses and gives the coaches and players areas on which to work in the next few games sessions. There was a lot of honest endeavour and enjoyment which is basically why we do it. More of the same next week with a further 18 teams participating, weather permitting!
