What a great day eight Year 6 students had at Ardingly College on Tuesday. After refreshments and an inspiring talk from the students working on the full-size solar power car, our young scientists split into teams to design, build and race their own mini solar cars. Sessions were split into maths for the annulation of the solar panel, Science to understand how the energy was transferred from the sun to the wheels and design and technology for the actual build.

Huge excitement was evident as the heats selected the 4 fastest cars, Ruari And Harry were both in teams that got to the semi finals. After zooming down the track in the heats Ruari’s team were knocked out, but with bated breath we watched as Harry’s team lined up for the final. His teams car shot down the track … a clear winner!

So they walked away with a prize, but everyone who took part left having learned a lot and had great fun. Well done to Eva, Ava, Gabby, Emi, Kirsten, Daniel, Ruari and of course Harry. They have certainly set the bar for next year!
