The Hurst Junior Athletics Championships proved to be very successful for our Year 4 and 5 athletes once again. Nineteen of our juniors pitted their wits against over 20 schools and over the course of the day secured 9 gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze medal placings.

To top it all off two of our girls were awarded the “Athlete of the Day” trophy for their performances. Tianna (Year 4) equalled the Long Jump championship record and also ran in the winning relay team and Katie (Year 5) broke the 800m record, won the 300m and also ran the last leg for another winning relay team. This is the second year running that we can boast an athlete of the day so to get 2 is fantastic.

This was possibly our most successful year at this event and will be great preparation for the “real” county finals next year. That is it for our junior athletes; their season is over and I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you for their efforts over the last 10 months or so. All of the training and preparation in the winter months has really paid off. Between them they have broken 17 school records this season and that will give our next crop a target to reach in the coming years.
Some say athletics is all natural, others say it can be coached. I say it is a blend of the 2 but what helps is having coachable children. See you in 2019…MA
