Following the Regional heats held earlier in the year, we had three qualifiers for the National Finals held at the London Aquatics Centre on the 8th June. The times achieved meant that we were well placed to achieve success but history has proved that it’s how you perform on the day that counts not where you are placed going in to Finals.

The day didn’t start particularly well when the coach back from France was delayed and Emily didn’t arrive back in time to make it to London before her event. Success now rested with Emi and Katie who to their credit performed really well in the heats with Emi qualifying for the final of the U12 Butterfly in 1st place and Katie in the U11 Breaststroke in 3rd.

Both girls held their nerve to again perform really well in the Finals. Emi’s event only lasts for 15 seconds so a good start is essential. Fortunately she achieved that and together with a strong swim meant that she was placed 1st in a time of 14.47. Katie had an even tougher job with the girl in 1st place 3 seconds faster than the rest of the field going in to the final. Again, Katie performed really well putting in an excellent turn and a very strong second length. Whilst she wasn’t able to make up the three second difference, she was able to secure a very creditable 2nd place in a time of 38.40

Well done to both girls for their performances on the day and for their contribution to school swimming throughout the year.
