U11B Hockey v Lancing Prep – Lost 3-1

Copthorne won the first push back and initially looked the stronger side as the ball was soon within scoring range. However, Lancing held their own and were strong in their defence. They soon demonstrated some strong passing which left Copthorne slightly dazed and despite the valiant efforts from our defence, especially Willow and Emily, the opposition soon scored two goals.
There was some good passing from our forwards, but we lacked the positional play that would have helped us score.
Unfortunately, there were no Hockey markings on the pitch which made it difficult for all the girls to judge when to score.
The second half of the match was better as Copthorne were more intune to each other. There were some great passes from Lucy, Ella and Georgina which finally allowed Harriet to score. Willow and Alex continued to work hard to defend the D but Lancing were quick with their free hits and managed to score again.
This was the B’s first hockey match and there are several skills they need to focus on. However,I am sure that they will learn from this match and be able to hold their own next week.
