Year 6 Explore Historical Ramsgate Tunnels 26th September 2025 Uncategorised As part of their current history and English topics and in preparation for their trip to Ramsgate, Year 6 started the week thinking about what it would have been like to live in the cramped and dark spaces within the war tunnels. Working in groups they created their own role plays, combining history and drama. On Thursday, they headed off to explore Ramsgate, learning all about the air-raid precautions that the people of the town had to take during World War II. They toured the underground tunnels and learned how they helped save lives during the Blitz. Everyone enjoyed a lovely lunch at the harbour, which was a main protagonist in ‘Operation Dynamo’, and where the small ships set sail to aid the evacuation of Dunkirk.
Year 5 Explore Scientific Separation 26th September 2025 Uncategorised After completing their initial work on lab safety, Year 5 pupils had the exciting opportunity to use Bunsen burners for the first time. Their experiment focused on evaporation: starting with a saltwater solution, they applied heat to separate the substances and recover the salt. Once the practical work was complete, the children wrote clear investigation reports in their books, carefully detailing the methods they used and the results they observed. A fantastic start to their science investigations this year!
Wimbledon Comes to Copthorne 9th July 2025 Community Sport Uncategorised Wednesday afternoon saw our Year 6 take part in a leavers’ tennis afternoon with their parents and older siblings. Inspired by events up in SW19 we witnessed tennis balls flying everywhere and some very unorthodox tennis shorts. Players competed in a round robin doubles format across the afternoon with a number of matches going down to the final point. The afternoon was rounded off in traditional Wimbledon style with a glass of Pimms and a cream tea. Game, Set, Match!
Thanks to the Friends of Copthorne 8th July 2025 Community Uncategorised As we wrap up another vibrant term at Copthorne Prep, we extend our heartfelt thanks to the Friends of Copthorne (FOC) for their unwavering support and incredible contributions to our school community. This year, the FOC has gone above and beyond in bringing joy, connection, and enrichment to our pupils’ lives. From the thrilling visit by Steele the Gladiator to the magical owl and bouncy castle displays at the Family Fun Day, and the ever-popular Christmas disco, their efforts have created unforgettable memories. Even the smallest gestures—like treats for the pantomime—have brought big smiles. The FOC has also been instrumental in hosting events that celebrate our community, with the Diwali celebration and the Circus visit standing out as highlights that brought families together in fun and festivity. Their fundraising through these events and also the well frequented pre-loved uniform shop has had a lasting impact on the school. Thanks to their dedication, over £8,000 of investment in the last school year has gone into benefitting our children and their experiences at Copthorne. We’ve seen the installation of a beautiful new school crest at reception, welcoming benches, and a gazebo that now serves as a hub for sporting and community events. Their support has also enhanced our learning environment with new technology, including interactive whiteboard tables and robotics tools that inspire curiosity and creativity in the classroom. Thank you to the Friends of Copthorne for your energy, generosity, and commitment. You’ve helped shape a school community that is not only stronger but also more joyful and inspiring for every child.
