A buzzy week!

29th April 2016

This week Reception has had a really buzzy week. We’ve been looking at minibeasts that hum and buzz in particular. We’ve learned all about bees and why they are so important to us and enjoyed making our own honey sandwiches. In literacy we learned all about similes and wrote our own wonderful similes about different minibeasts:

“A spider is as scary as a monster” – Ethan

“The butterfly is as colourful as a rainbow” – Evelyn

“A wasp is as yellow as the sun” – Piper

“A spider is as creepy as a ghost” – Aryan

In Maths it has been all about more and less. The children really enjoyed each rolling their own dice and then working out what would be one more and one less. We’ve also made some crazy caterpillars to help us count to bigger numbers.

The highlight of the week for the children was our trip to Tesco. They learned all about healthy eating and made their own fruit kebabs. At the fish counter we met Connie the ‘crevette’ and Tina trout. Some of us really enjoyed holding and touching them and others thought they were too slippery and scary. We also made our own pizzas and enjoyed them on Wednesday with our class friends at school.
