Storytelling Self Portraits in Year 4 6th March 2026 Creative Arts This term, Year 4 have been exploring how portraits can communicate the stories behind the people they represent. After studying the vibrant, narrative‑driven work of artist Venessa Scott, the children were inspired to create their own meaningful mixed‑media self‑portraits. Pupils began by gathering images of people, places and activities that hold personal significance. They then painted expressive backgrounds using their favourite colours before arranging their chosen images alongside fabric pieces and other decorative materials. Each collage was carefully composed—glued, layered and designed to reflect the children’s individuality. The final results were a fantastic collection of mixed‑media artworks that beautifully capture each child’s unique sense of identity and belonging. Well done Year 4!
