Butterflies Explore the Creation Station

In Butterflies, we’ve had a fantastic first week back, settling into our routines and exploring our exciting new areas. The children have loved our new Creation Station, where they have been sticking, and exploring different materials to express their creativity. Our new messy area has also been very popular, giving the children opportunities to explore textures, colours, and mark-making in a fun, hands-on way. We have also enjoyed introducing our new topic, Smiley Shark, which has sparked lots of curiosity and smiles as the children learn through play.

Patterns in Smiley Shark

In Bumblebees pre-school class this week, we have been focusing on repeating patterns as part of our ‘White Rose Maths’ lessons,

In our chosen book of the week, ‘Smiley Shark’, the character befriends an angelfish with a patterned body. We replicated this by creating striped patterns on fish-shaped cutouts.

Christmas Butterflies!

Our Nursery Butterflies have had a wonderful week filled with festive creativity and excitement. We kicked off the week with a cosy Pyjama Day on Monday, enjoying a movie morning with hot chocolate. We then made our own Christmas tree pictures using paint and sponges, and the children were so proud of their artwork! Later in the week, the children decorated cookies and took part in even more festive fun.

Building Little Skills in Bumblebees

This week our pre-school Bumblebees have been engaging in a variety of fine motor skill activities. During our loose parts play, children have been constructing figures using lolly sticks and decorating a Christmas tree with coloured pegs to enhance their fine motor development and creativity

Baarmy Bethlehem!

This year’s Nativity, Baarmy Bethlehem, was a truly magical production performed in our school theatre. The story was beautifully brought to life by our wonderful narrators, with an extra sprinkle of fun from our lively party sheep — Scamp, Cheeky and Rascal — who helped guide the audience through the tale.

Nursery children charmed everyone as Angels and sheep, filling the stage with gentle sparkle and adorable character. Reception joined them as sheep, performing with confidence and enthusiasm. Year 1 shone brightly as Shepherds and Angels, taking on their roles with great pride. Our Year 2 pupils completed the cast as the main characters, delivering their parts with maturity and remarkable expression.

Every child from Reception to Year 2 contributed with a speaking role, and they all did exceptionally well. Their clear, confident delivery showed just how hard they have worked. The singing throughout the performance was fantastic, filling the theatre with warmth and festive spirit.

Baarmy Bethlehem was a joyful and heart-warming way to begin December, and we are incredibly proud of all the children for their dedication, talent, and teamwork. It was a performance to remember!

Let’s Build a Snowman!

In Bumblebees pre-school class, we have been engaging in multiple Christmas craft activities. We constructed a snowman using large lolly sticks, which we painted white. Subsequently, we added the snowman’s features and completed his appearance by wrapping wool around his neck to resemble a scarf. Good job everyone!

Butterflies Sparkle with Christmas Creativity!

We have been so busy in Butterflies lower nursery class this week, and this lovely picture shows just how much fun we’ve had! The children have enjoyed creating their own colourful Christmas cards and calendars, concentrating beautifully on their festive crafts. They also looked wonderful dressed up for our Christmas nativity, proudly posing in their costumes in front of our sparkling Christmas tree. It has truly been a lovely and creative week, full of Christmas magic!

A Festive Week of Learning in Butterflies

In Butterflies nursery class, Christmas has well and truly arrived! The children loved listening to our festive story Father Christmas Needs a Wee, which sparked lots of chatting about the numbered doors he visits and all the kind things he does as he delivers presents. Inspired by the story, the children created their own Santa pictures using cotton wool, paint, and collage materials. They showed such enthusiasm as they carefully added fluffy beards and bright red hats, proudly sharing their creations with their friends. It has been a joyful week full of creativity, number talk, and festive excitement! Great job Butterflies!

Santa’s Grotto Arrives in Nursery

This week, the pre-school classroom in Bumblebees’ class was transformed into a festive, Christmas-themed environment, with our role play area resembling Santa’s Grotto. The children have enjoyed decorating their Christmas Tree and reading Christmas stories to Richard the bear.

What Colour is Love?

In Butterflies, lower nursery class, we read the story What Colour Is Love? this week and talked about all the different colours we can see around us. The children had lots of fun making colourful handprints to help create our handprint Christmas tree. They loved choosing their paint colours and making their marks. We can’t wait to put all the handprints together to make our bright and cheerful tree!
