Focus and Fine Motor Skills in Pre-School 3rd October 2025 Nursery Bumblebees pre-schoolers have been strengthening their fine motor skills through a fun, hands-on activity inspired by The Very Hungry Caterpillar! The children carefully used tweezers to pick up red and green pom-poms, placing them onto coloured tubes to create their very own caterpillars. This activity not only supported their coordination and control but also created lots of excitement in the classroom!
Exploring Numbers with The Very Hungry Caterpillar 26th September 2025 Nursery This week in Bumblebees Class, we’ve been diving into the delightful story The Very Hungry Caterpillar! The children have loved exploring the caterpillar’s journey, from his tiny egg to a beautiful butterfly. In our maths area, we’ve been busy practicing number recognition — the children matched numbers to the correct quantity by placing colourful bricks onto the caterpillar’s leaves. It’s been a wonderful way to combine storytelling, counting, and creativity!
We Went on Bear Hunt! 19th September 2025 Nursery This week, as part of our exciting topic “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt,” the children in Pre-School brought the story to life in a special tuff spot! Using characters from the book, they acted out each part of the adventure — squelching through the sticky mud, splashing through the cool water, swishing through the tall grass, and braving the swirling snowstorm. We used lots of different materials and textures to recreate each setting, and the children loved exploring them all. It was a wonderful, hands-on way to step right into the story!
Butterflies Embrace Autumn 19th September 2025 Nursery In our youngest Butterflies class, we’ve been embracing the magic of Autumn! The children have loved exploring the school grounds, noticing how the trees are changing colour and spotting busy squirrels gathering their acorns. Back in the classroom, they’ve been inspired by what they’ve seen — creating beautiful squirrel paintings for our Autumn display. The colours are vibrant, the artwork is full of character, and the display is going to look absolutely stunning! Well done, Butterflies!

French Fun in Nursery 4th July 2025 Global Nursery Our Bumblebee Pre- School children enjoyed a special visitor in French this week as ‘Jean-Luc’ came to class. He is our French puppet friend who has been teaching us French throughout the year. We went over all the words we have learnt this term. Meanwhile, our lower Nursery children had lots of fun cooling down with some water play! They enjoyed emptying and filling the jugs and looking for the numbered pebbles, we practiced our number recognition and counting skills.
Summer Maths and Cool Creatives in Nursery 27th June 2025 Nursery In Bumblebees pre-school class, the children have been practising matching quantities to numerals. In alignment with our summer theme, they engaged in an activity where they used finger painting to create colourful ice creams on cones. In Butterflies and Caterpillars, the nursery children had fun stamping their cups to look like ice cubes, then added lime slices and a straw to finish their drinks. It was a great hands-on activity that encouraged creativity!
Our youngest Copthornians enjoy a Summer Fun Day 20th June 2025 Nursery Pre-prep Last Friday, the EYFS department was transformed into a traditional summer fete as children and staff came together to celebrate Summer Fun Day in spectacular style! The air buzzed with excitement as children threw themselves into classic fete favourites like the coconut shy, tin can alley, and hoopla—each game bringing cheers of joy and friendly competition. But the real magic arrived on four hooves: two fabulous unicorns named Fanny and Misty made a surprise appearance, much to the delight of our youngest children. With shimmering colourful manes and gentle nuzzles, the unicorns brought a sprinkle of fairy dust to the sunny afternoon. To top it all off, the jingle of the ice cream van was very welcome with a cooling ice cream for all!
Ice Creams at the Seaside for Nursery 19th June 2025 Nursery Pre-prep This week in Bumblebees preschool class, we have been focusing on the theme of summer. Our featured book is ‘Look What I Found at the Seaside’. The children have been sharing their ideas about activities and items they enjoy at the seaside, with ice cream and lollies being a popular choice. Additionally, we created collage lollies in our creative area. Meanwhile our younger Butterflies and Caterpillars children had lots of fun getting creative with a sensory activity! Using shaving foam for the ice cream and cornflakes for the cone, they worked together to make a giant ice cream cone. They explored textures, used their fine motor skills, and showed great teamwork. Well done!
