Year 5 Find the Solution 14th November 2025 Science This week in science, Year 5 have been looking at dissolving and what constitutes a solution. They used their powers of observation to conduct a series of experiments where they tried dissolving different substances. By observing what happened and what they were left with in their beakers, they could decide whether or not a solution had been formed.
Rocking Our Science Lessons! 14th November 2025 Science This week, Year 3 have been busy investigating the different properties of rocks. They tested the hardness and permeability of various samples and even explored how rocks might react to acid rain by carefully adding vinegar with a pipette. It was a fascinating, hands-on way to discover more about the world beneath our feet!
Marvelous Mummification! 14th November 2025 Global Science This week Year 3 have been learning all about the fascinating process of mummification and its importance in Ancient Egyptian culture. The children explored each stage in detail, discovering how and why the Egyptians preserved their pharaohs for the afterlife. A highlight of the lesson was when they had the chance to practise wrapping a ‘body’ in linen themselves, there was lots of laughter and excitement as they brought history to life!
Year 6 Put Their Knowledge into Practice 17th October 2025 Science Year 6 have been learning about the Linnaean system this term. After researching the man himself and presenting their findings to the class, they enjoyed working in groups, using this classification system themselves.
Bridge Builders at Little Scientists Club 17th October 2025 Co-curricular Science This week our young scientists took on the challenge of becoming structural engineers! Working in pairs, they designed and built bridges between two chairs — sturdy enough to hold up two toys. Using only straws, wooden beams, masking tape, and elastic bands, each team created a completely unique structure. Every bridge met the challenge in its own creative way, showing brilliant teamwork, problem-solving, and innovation. What amazing little engineers we have!
Reception Explore Space 10th October 2025 Pre-prep Science This week, Reception blasted off into Science with Whatever Next! We created our own rockets using bottles and straws and discovered they only fly with the right pressure — a great way to learn about forces! We also explored the solar system and imagined which planet we’d like to visit. What an exciting week of space adventures!
Year 4 Blast Off at Herstmonceux 3rd October 2025 Science Year 4 enjoyed a fantastic day at the Herstmonceux Observatory and Science Centre. The children were captivated by an interactive science show, got stuck into a brilliant robot arms workshop, and explored the outdoor exhibits that made science feel fun and real. They came away full of curiosity, questions, and excitement — a true taste of what it means to be a scientist. It was a memorable day that brought their learning to life in the best possible way.
Sport Science in Year 3 26th September 2025 Science In Year 3 science, we have been learning all about the human skeleton. The children were fascinated to discover that the longest and strongest bone in the human body is the femur (thigh bone). To put their learning into action, they carried out an exciting investigation: Can someone with a longer femur jump further? The children carefully measured and recorded their results, using their scientific skills to think about fair testing and what might affect the outcome. It was a fun and active way to explore how our bones help us move, and Year 3 loved combining science with a bit of sport!
It’s a Matter of State in Year 4 Science 26th September 2025 Science Year 4 have been busy investigating how heat changes different solids. Using careful observation, they measured the time taken, temperature reached, and the changes in state when the solids were heated. The children were fascinated to see how some solids melted at different rates, sparking lots of discussion about why materials behave in different ways. It was a fun, hands-on way to explore science in action!
Year 6 Look at the Life and Work of Carl Linnaeus 26th September 2025 Science This week, Year 6 pupils have been learning about Carl Linnaeus, the Swedish botanist known as the “Father of Modern Taxonomy.” Linnaeus developed the Linnaean System for classifying living things and introduced the binomial nomenclature — the two-part naming system for organisms that we still use today. The children researched his life and achievements before presenting their findings to the rest of the class. It was a fantastic opportunity to develop their scientific knowledge and presentation skills. Well done, Year 6!
