Clues, Codes and Treasure at Outdoor Maths Day

This week, every class enjoyed taking maths outdoors for a special Outdoor Maths Day. Activities ranged from escape rooms and orienteering challenges to a lively Place Value Bootcamp, giving children the chance to apply their maths skills in fun and engaging ways.

A particular highlight for Years 5 and 6 was the Secret Garden Mystery in our sensory garden. Based on a fictional story about a Copthorne Headteacher from 100 years ago, pupils worked in teams to solve a series of maths problems, unlocking clues that eventually led them to a treasure chest.

The day was full of collaboration, problem-solving and excitement. It was wonderful to see children working together, thinking creatively and discovering that maths can be enjoyed well beyond the classroom walls.

We are excited to be taking part in the Sumdog South East England Maths Contest from 19 October (8.00am) to 23 October (12.00pm). Good luck to all our Copthornians taking part! Let’s see if we can climb the leaderboard and showcase our fantastic maths skills against schools across the region.
