Picasso and Gaudi Inspire Year 4 Artists 19th June 2026 Creative Arts As part of their global studies, our Year 4 pupils looked at the influence and creativity of some key Spanish artists. Inspired by Picasso and his cubist period, the children took photographs of themselves from different angles and created a collage of themselves. Some children added different materials as well as their own drawings. They also learned about the painter himself and were impressed with his first small masterpiece that he created only aged eight. They also explored the colourful and creative world of the famous Spanish artist and architect, Antoni Gaudí. The children worked in pairs to design and create their own mosaics inspired by Gaudí’s work. They began by choosing ideas influenced by Spanish themes such as suns, lizards, and nature and drawing a simple outline. Using small pieces of coloured paper, the pupils carefully built up their designs using a mosaic technique. They showed great teamwork, patience and creativity, making sure to leave small gaps between each piece to achieve an authentic mosaic effect. The finished artwork is vibrant and full of personality. We are very proud of the effort, collaboration and imagination shown by all of Year 4!
