Year 2 Explore Cool Colours in Polar Themed Art 6th February 2026 Creative Arts Year 2 have been busy diving into the world of polar landscapes this term, producing a beautiful collection of artwork inspired by icy environments and Antarctic wildlife. To begin their project, the children learnt about warm and cool colours, exploring how artists use colour to create mood and atmosphere. They discovered that cool colours—such as blues, greens and purples—are ideal for representing frosty scenes and chilly climates. Using this knowledge, the children created their own polar landscape collages, carefully selecting and layering papers in cool shades to capture the look and feel of the polar regions. Next, pupils experimented with soft pastels to draw charming penguins. They thought carefully about the size, shape and position of their penguins on the page and used shading and blending techniques to bring their illustrations to life. Each penguin had its own delightful personality and character. Year 2 should be very proud of their creativity—these wintry artworks have brought a wonderful sense of polar magic to the classroom!
