Supporting Musicians to Flourish

It’s been a tuneful and inspiring start to the term in our Music Department! From performances to practice, pupils have been showing wonderful enthusiasm and creativity. Here are some ways you can support your young musicians at home.

Quick Tips for Supporting Music at Home:

✅ Set a routine – little and often works best (10–15 minutes a day).
✅ Ditch the headphones! – if your child plays an electric instrument, encourage them to play out loud. That’s how real musicians grow — let their music fill the room; practice is meant to be heard.
✅ Show interest – ask to hear a piece, or hum along.
✅ Encourage effort – celebrate small steps forward.
✅ Keep instruments ready – accessible, tuned, and cared for.
✅ Stay in touch – let us know if your child is struggling.

How to Get Involved:

  • Read your child’s notebook – it’s a simple way to follow their progress.
  • Hum or whistle the piece your child is learning – it’s so validating for them to know their music has made an impact on others.
  • Get involved with tuning your child’s instrument – it isn’t tricky, and it sets a great example.
  • Hold family concerts – get everyone involved! Other family members could sing a song, read a poem, or even just clap along.
