10 out of 10 for our Sporting Stars!

The past 2 weeks have seen Copthorne pupils compete in ten consecutive days of sporting fixtures that have included Years 3/4 Girls Hockey, Years 3/4 Boys Football, Years 5/6 Girls Hockey, Years 5/6 Boys Football, 2 Swimming Galas and 2 cross country events.

The annual Ardingly Cross Country event took place on Friday 10 October and it was wonderful to see that the work that is being done in PE and Games over the past year is now starting to transfer itself into the sports field. Highlights below

  • All the Year 4 boys (Gabe, Alek, Frankie, James) and Isabelle M made the A final
  • James finishing 8th in the A final
  • Year 4 Boys team third overall in the age group event
  • George just missed out on the A Final by coming 7th but finished a fantastic 4th in B final
  • With Anastasia being the stand out performance coming 3rd in the A Final
  • A BIG well done to all the other competitors who ran their socks off

Saturday 11 October saw the U11As Boys football side take part in a lovely tournament over at Caterham Prep. Eight other schools took part and after a tight group phase we were placed in the Plate competition. A very tense semi-final saw the boys win via a penalty shoot out and so they advanced to the final and came away victorious as plate winners, with each boy taking home a well deserved medal.

Sunday 12 October saw some of our wonderful cross country runners back out competing again over at East Court in East Grinstead. A massive thank you to all who gave up their Sunday afternoon to represent the school. Anastasia who came 4th and Faeqah who came 9th in the U11/10 Girls were our best placed finishers. Every member of the squad deserved praise (Years 5/6: Faeqah. Joshua, Charlotte. Anastasia, Isabella A, Years 3/4: Gabe Isabelle M, Alek M James)

Both Swimming Galas saw Copthorne pupils produce times close to or better than their personal bests and they can also be rightly proud of their achievements.

On top of usual fixtures, it’s been a busy but exciting ten days of sport – well done all!

Mr Pinnock and Ms Prinsloo.
