Descriptive Writing

Year 3 have just started their new book Fairs fair which is set in Victorian Times (linked to their History topic this term). After producing a piece of descriptive writing about the lead character Jackson as a whole class the children were given a picture of a dog that appears in the book. They were asked to give their first impressions of him. One example is written below for you. The children had spent a lesson working on similes and adjectives to extend their writing prior to this lesson. Fierce as a lion the snarling dog walked down a street read the full post »

Radio 2 500 words short story

Mrs Wade has entered Ella Bain’s story into the Radio 2 500 words competition. I hope when you have read this you will understand why. A writer in the making! The Beach Dog Luke walked across the glimmering water. Tears falling with a splash! The sea eating them as they had eaten something else before. He walked off leaving the beach where he once felt at home, now it was the saddest place in the world. “Luke come on, you need to stay at home when the sun goes down!” yelled his mum with loneliness in her heart as well. read the full post »

The Iron Man by Ted Hughes

This term our class reader is The Iron Man and already we have had some fun with our new book. We have been into the woods and acted out Chapter 2 and then written a newspaper report about how the villagers trapped the Iron man and buried him in an enormous hole. Please come and read our reports – they are up in the classroom. We have been practising our handwriting on a picture of the Iron Man – again these are up to celebrate how our handwriting has improved this year. Today we wrote a menu of what we thought the read the full post »

Year 3KW Class Assembly

With only a couple of days notice for our class assembly we were delighted to see so many parents in the Rendall Room on Tuesday morning. Quickly the class changed into their Egyptian costumes and they clearly spoke their lines to Years 5 and 7 alongside their families. Mrs Wade would like to thank Mrs Vaughan for getting the costumes out of her loft for the weekend and also Mrs Thomas for helping to wrap Jonathan in his ‘mummies’ costume. She couldn’t have done it without them! All of the children thoroughtly deserved their double effort star for this production. read the full post »

The Big Write

The latest Big Write in Year 2 was called My Magic Finger, and with the usual parental  input the night before, together with mood lighting and background Mozart music, the results were a wonderfully mixed bag! Sebbie wrote:  I went to the park with Dad and Lucas and Ernie.  Lucas was rude.  I put my magic finger on  Lucas and then he turned into a dog.  Just like Ernie. Lucas was not rude again. Neve wrote:  When I was born something amazing happened to me.  I had a magic finger.  I can turn my teacher into something fun.  I love read the full post »
