This week has marked another World Book Week, with Thursday not just being World Book Day, but also World Wildlife Day. With this in mind, years 3 – 8 looked at the book Here We Are (Notes to living on planet Earth) by Oliver Jefferies. We discussed the main issues and themes within the book and then watched a short video by David Attenborough, which showed images of our planet as he recited the words to the song What a Wonderful World. Every year group then had an opportunity to re-write the words to the song. Years 3 and 4 worked in groups to re-write a verse, years 5 and 6 started re-writing one verse, but very quickly decided to keep going and re-write more, while years 7 and 8 worked together to remake David Attenborough’s entire video. The results were astounding, and we have attached a link to just one of the many fabulous videos created by some year 8s. Our year 6s decided to go a step further, changing the final verse of the song to talk about the environmental impact humans are having on our world, ending their songs not with And I think to myself, what a wonderful world, but with the words, And I think to myself, How are we changing this world?
