We live in a democratic society, which means that we all have a say in how the country is run. Our Parliament is made up of the House of Commons and the House of Lords and these two Houses have the important jobs of challenging the work of the government, debating and shaping new laws, and debating the big issues of the day. Year 7 will be learning more about how the government has shaped our society over the coming weeks, and will be debating some of their own big ideas: ‘Should the voting age be reduced from 18 to 16 for all nations in the UK?’; ‘Should buses and trains be free for children aged 16 and under?’; ‘Should school kitchens be allowed to provide fried food for children and staff?’ It’s all up for debate!
